Junior Bruins get off to impressive start

Eleven players scored at least two points as the Columbia High boys jayvee crushed the Lyle jayvee, 60-14, there last Friday.

Freshman Darnell Douglas led the balanced attack, hitting for 14 points.

Also scoring for the Junior Bruins (3-0) were: Jared McDonald 8, Thomas Jeter 7, Kent Shelley 6, Greg Tellez 6, Brett Rawding 5, Travis Hamilton 4, Kyle Earls 3, Dane Bargabus 3, Jesse Belvin 2, Jacob Overbay 2.

Hamilton hauled down a team-high nine rebounds, while Jeter grabbed eight in just two quarters of play. Nick Reeves had six boards, Earls four.

Douglas and Belvin shared the team lead in assists with four apiece. Steals leaders were Belvin and McDonald with three each.

For Lyle, Beau Kitchens was the top scorer with seven points.

The Junior Bruins took a commanding 20-1 lead in the first quarter and were never threatened thereafter. They held the Cougars JV to seven points or less in each quarter.

At Columbia JV 64, Dufur, Ore. JV 28 --

Another big first quarter sparked the Junior Bruins to the Dec. 7 homecourt victory.

CHS jumped out to a 28-4 lead in the first quarter and increased that to 41-9 by halftime.

Darnell Douglas had 12 points and four steals, and Brett Rawding collected eight of White Salmon's 35 rebounds and Dane Bargabus dished for three assists to finish as team leaders.

Douglas and Kent Shelley tied for team honors with two 3-pointers each.

Also contributing points to the Junior Bruins' win were: Greg Tellez 9, Jared McDonald 8, Shelley 6, Jesse Belvin 5, Rawding 4, Thomas Jeter 4, Nick Reeves 4, Jacob Overbay 4, Kyle Earls 2, Kyle Yeager 2, Bargabus 2, Kyle Reeves 1.

Columbia JV 60, at Dufur JV 26 --

Darnell Douglas scored 25 points and Jared McDonald had 10 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Junior Bruins to the season-opening victory Nov. 30.

Also scoring in the season's first game were: Shelley 8, Jeter 4, Bargabus 3, Belvin 2, Earls 2, Overbay 2, Tellez 2.
