Vic Wild of White Salmon, shown competing last month in at the Chevy Truck U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix in Park City, Utah, has been named to the Project Gold team, the development squad for the U.S. National Team. The 17-year-old earned his spot by placing first in the 19-and-under parallel giant slalom and 27th overall in alpine combined at Park City. Last weekend, Wild finished sixth in the giant slalom and 25th in the slalom at Okemo, Vt. That event was the second in a series of three North American Cup qualifying races for a World Cup event at Mt. Bachelor, Ore., in March. The final NorAm race is set for March 1-2 at Washington's Crystal Mountain. Wild, who races for the Steamboat Springs (Colo.) Winter Sports Club, leaves this weekend for the Czech Republic, where he'll compete Feb. 11-12 in the FIS Junior World Championships.
