A 20-year-old man from Beaverton, Ore., was transported to Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Ore., by Lifeflight after sustaining head injuries and a possible broken leg from a fall over an eight-foot ledge in the Ape Caves.
The accident occurred Monday, July 5.
Ape Caves is a lava tube, popular with tourists and hikers on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest and is located on the southern flank of Mt. St. Helens.
Eric Ball, Beaverton, Ore., was rescued from within the Ape Caves by North Country EMS, USFS, and Skamania County Sheriff's Office personnel. He was recreating with friends at the time of the accident.
