White Salmon band takes first in Portland competition

Competition included 49 bands

The Anomalies, a White Salmon band, took first place in Portland's Exposure Battle of the Bands on Feb. 28.

The event, sponsored by Donmar Recording Studios, ran from 10 a.m. until midnight. The competition was held at the Roseland Theater in Portland, and pitted 49 bands against each other.

Each band performed for 25 minutes, with judging on originality, musical expertise, and stage presence.

The Anomalies consists of Dane Ueland on guitar and vocals; Bennie Clack on guitar; Alex Kelly on drums; Ben Mahaffey on keyboards; and Danny Gerarro on bass. All are juniors at Columbia High School, and have been playing together less than a year.

The band members write all their own music and lyrics, and plan to be a part of the upcoming battle of the bands, scheduled for 7 p.m.-11 p.m. at the Skamania Parks & Recreation Center in Stevenson on Friday, March 26.

As part of its prize, the band will receive 16 hours of complimentary recording time at Donmar Studios in Portland.
