The Klickitat School District Board of Directors has narrowed its search for a new superintendent/principal to two finalists.
Selected from a pool of 30 applicants, the finalists met with staff, toured the community, and participated in a potluck dinner Friday, March 19. Formal board interviews took place Saturday, March 20.
Thomas Colby is from Mansfield. Colby retired as superintendent of Mansfield School District in June 2003. He served as Mansfield's leader since July, 2000. Prior to that, he spent 13 years as principal for grades K-8 at Wahkiakum School District. He also served as principal at Wiskah Valley School District and a teacher at White Salmon Middle School. He completed the Superintendent Certificate program at Washington State University in 1997. He holds a Master of Science in Education Administration from Portland State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Education at Central Washington University.
Glenn Harris is from Crescent City, Calif. Currently owner of Cascade Mountain Specialty Coffee, Harris served as vice president of Legislative Action for the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) until January, 2004. He served as County Director of After School Programs and principal of Del Norte County Unified School District in California from 2001-2003. He also was principal of the Redwood School (Calif.), the Bess Maxwell School (Calif.), and El Portal Elementary (Calif.). He was assistant principal at Chief Moses Junior High (Wash.), an associate professor at Cal State Hayward University, and a teacher at Springhill Elementary School (Calif.). Harris holds a Master of Science in Resource Management Sociology and a Bachelor of Science in Forest Silviculture from University of Washington. He completed the Superintendent Credential Program at Cal State University Hayward.
The selected candidate will succeed Rick Wilde, currently Superintendent of Castle Rock School District. Currently, Ron Hackbarth is serving as Interim Superintendent for the school district.
Dr. Twyla Barnes and Educational Service District 112 staff members are assisting the Klickitat Board of Directors in the superintendent's search process.
