The Discovery Center announces the opening of the Lewis and Clark Cargo Exhibit in May.
An exclusive members opening is scheduled for Friday, May 21. The exhibit will be available to the public beginning Saturday, May 22.
Executive Director and noted Lewis and Clark archaeologist Ken Karsmizki is the curator of this exhibit that draws on 17 years of original research.
Designed by One+Two, Inc. of Portland and fabricated by Pacific Studios of Seattle, the exhibit will bring the expedition to life through a detailed examination of the objects that were packed and carried on the epic journey.
Replica and authentic period objects have been gathered from across the country and as far away as the Middle East and Brazil to accurately represent the objects of the expedition. This object-based approach offers the opportunity to explore the choices Meriwether Lewis made in preparing for this epic journey and what they tell us about life in 1804-1806.
Advisors for the Cargo exhibit include distinguished scholars Dr. James Ronda, Dr. Gary Moulton, and Dr. John Logan Allen. American Indian advisors include Bobbie Conner and Liz Woody.
The Oregon Tourism Commission and Lewis and Clark Bicentennial in Oregon recognizes this exhibit as one of the unique attractions Oregon will offer for the bicentennial commemoration.
