Mustangs eke out win over Knights, snap losing streak

Trout Lake twice in the last seven minutes to edge the Knights in Greater Columbia B League soccer action Oct. 5.

Senior Mark Poland booted a penalty kick in the 73rd minute to tie the score and senior Peter Schmid clinched the victory for the Mustangs with a goal in the final minute of regulation.

Trout Lake (2-2 in the GCB) took its first lead in the fifth minute of the first half on a goal by senior Kris Huffsmith.

But Sunnyside Christian broke through in the 35th minute on a Micah Koopmans goal that was set up by Matt Haak's assist.

Four minutes later, the Knights moved in front, 2-1, when Haak knocked in a penalty kick.

Sunnyside (0-3) nursed that lead for the last minute of the first half and for much of the second before fouling Poland with seven minutes to play and giving him the one-on-one opportunity to knot things up.
