TL Mustangs win fourth straight, look to rematch with MLC Lions

Senior Mark Poland scored five goals last Friday, leading Trout Lake to its fourth consecutive Greater Columbia B League soccer victory, an 8-3 win against visiting Sunnyside Christian.

The Mustangs (4-2 in GCB, 10-2 overall) also got two goals from senior Peter Schmid and one from junior Dale Dick.

Trout Lake netted three goals in the first 13 minutes of play--Dick opened the scoring in the seventh minute, and Poland followed with a pair of net-finders in the ninth and 13th--to go on top, 3-0, and led, 4-1, at halftime.

Sunnyside sliced that lead in half 10 minutes into the second half on Micah Koopmans' second goal, but that was as close as the Knights (0-5, 5-7) would get.

Poland made sure of that, knocking in his third and fourth goals a minute apart, in the 51st and 52nd minutes, to increase Trout Lake's lead to 6-2.

Koopmans got his hat trick in the 60th minute to halve the lead to 6-3, but Poland and Schmid countered in the 64th and 67th minute respectively to close out the scoring.

Trout Lake opened the week with a 4-1 victory at Riverside Christian on Oct. 12. Last Friday, the Crusaders lost, 4-0, to the league-leading Moses Lake Christian Lions.

Trout Lake visits Moses Lake this Friday for the third and final regular-season meeting between the two teams.

The Lions (6-0, 9-2) swept two from the Mustangs during an Oct. 1-2 series in Trout Lake.
