Columbia High opens district soccer tournament against Onalaska/Napavine

Columbia High (10-6) opens against Evergreen No. 2 Onalaska/Napavine (14-2) on Monday, Nov. 1, in the first round of the SW Washington District 4 2A girls soccer tournament.

The match will be played in Hoquiam, starting at 5 p.m.

The Bruins finished third in the Trico Division, losing their Oct. 28 regular-season finale at Ridgefield, 5-0.

They also forfeited an Oct. 26 match to Hockinson, 1-0, retiring after 10 minutes of play because of poor field conditions.

The forfeiture and the loss to Ridgefield cost Columbia second place in final Trico Division standings. That spot went to Woodland, which meets Evergreen No. 3 Toledo/Winlock (12-4), also on Monday in Hoquiam.

Trico champion Ridgefield (14-1) takes on Evergreen titlist Montesano (15-1) for the district crown, with the winner advancing to state as the top seed, the loser as the second.

Winners of the Columbia-Onalaska/Napavine and Woodland-Toledo/Winlock matches will face off on Wednesday, Nov. 3, at Camas High School for the district's third and foruth state tournament seeds. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

A loser-out match between the losers--for the district's fifth and final state berth--will precede the winners' match. It kicks off the district double-header at 4 p.m.

The state tournament starts next Wednesday, Nov. 10. The tournament bracket is posted on the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association's website,
