Longview Fibre closes land due to fire risk

Ban effective Aug. 12

Due to increasingly dry and hot conditions and the high forest fire danger, all Longview Fibre Co. timberlands in Washington and Oregon will be closed to all public recreational entry starting Friday, Aug. 12.

"We are forced to close the company's approximately 585,000 acres in nine Oregon and Washington tree farms to public access until substantial rains reduce the wildfire threat," explained Wade C. Boyd, senior vice president/timber for Longview Fibre.

The company will be closing gates and posting closure notices at timberlands entry points this week. Security patrols will also be increased for the duration of the fire season.
