Due to extremely dry conditions and the lack of rainfall resulting in a high risk of forest fires, several properties in the area are closing their roads and properties in Klickitat, Skamania, and Yakima counties to all public entry. Included in the closures are properties owned by SDS Lumber Co., Rainier Timber Co., Broughton Lumber Co., the Kreps Family LLC, and the Kreps Ranch. SDS is also closing its lands in Hood River County and Wasco County in Oregon.
The closure is effective as of Thursday, Sept. 1.
"Logging is already limited due to the dry conditions, and there is no relief in sight," explained Frank Backus, chief foresters for SDS. "Reluctantly, we have decided to close the properties to the public to minimize the threat of a forest fire."
The lands involved will remain closed until there is substantial rainfall. Entry points to the various properties will be posted, and security patrols have been assigned to enforce the closure.
