At approximately 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, the Klickitat County Sheriff's Office requested the Skamania County Sheriff's Office Dive Team to respond to 1190 State Route 141 for a swift water rescue.
A female kayaker was trapped on the Big White Salmon River with face, neck and back injuries.
Eight Skamania County Sheriff's Divers responded to the accident location. When divers reached the patient, an off-duty fireman (kayaker) was on scene trying to stabilize the victim.
Using a backboard and spider straps, she was secured and placed on a raft. The sheriff's office team, along with some additional on scene kayakers, floated her downstream approximately 1/4 mile to a trailhead.
Wind River Search and Rescue was called to assist in setting up a rope system to get her up a steep muddy trail. Wind River Search and Rescue and the dive team brought her up the bank, where she was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
