Columbia High's two-point halftime lead withstood a final Castle Rock possession in the last 12 seconds of their boys junior varsity basketball game here Monday night.
The Firecrackers' attempt at the game winner was a dud and the Junior Bruins escaped with a 48-47 victory--their second in a row--that improved their overall record to 7-4.
Kyle Reeves scored 10 points and Jesse Belvin had nine for CHS, which led 20-18 at halftime but was outscored 29-28 in the second half.
Also contributing points to the winning effort were: Kent Shelley 8, Travis Hamilton 7, Kyle Earls 4, Brett Rawding 4, Nick Reeves 2, Jared McDonald 2.
The Junior Bruins won their sixth game of the season Jan. 19 at Stevenson. Shelley put in 16 points and Thomas Jeter added 10, helping CHS put away Stevenson, 58-37.
CHS, which netted 20 points in the opening period and led 32-16 at the half, also got scoring contributions from Rawding (8), McDonald (6), Kyle Reeves (4), Earls (4), Jacob Overbay (3), Dane Bargabus (3) and Hamilton (2).
The Junior Bruins' offense never hit high gear in a 66-37 loss Jan. 13 at Hockinson.
Scoring for CHS went as follows: McDonald 7, Jeter 6, Earls 6, Hamilton 6, Shelley 6, Bargabus 3 and Nick Reeves 3.
Against Woodland here Jan. 10, McDonald tallied 13 points and Shelley hit for 12 in a 54-37 win.
Seven other Junior Bruins added points to the CHS total. They were: Hamilton (8), Belvin (5), Earls (5), Jeter (4), Kyle Yeager (3), Kyle Reeves (2) and Rawding (2).
