The second annual "Husum Days" community party gets under way this Saturday, June 4, beginning with the Husum Firemen's pancake breakfast at the Husum Fire Hall at 7 a.m. Proceeds from the breakfast go to benefit Klickitat County Fire District No. 3.
At 10 a.m., the "Ducky Derby" begins. The derby is a fundraiser that features dozens of rubber ducks, each with a specific number, being released into the White Salmon River above Husum Falls. Those who paid to sponsor the first three ducks to reach the finish line receive prizes.
The Ducky Derby is designed to fund education, area tourism, and beautification of the Husum community. Last year, the money raised by the event went to pay for salmon restoration programs and for aquatic education at Whitson Elementary School.
Other events during the day include art displays, live music, and a "mayor's ball" at Wind River Cellars.
