The Klickitat County Planning Department is considering a zone change request on a proposal to rezone 40 acres from "forest resource (FR20)" to "rural residential (RR2)."
The location of the property is off Jennings Road, west of the post office at Trout Lake. The Planning Department issued a "determination of non-significance" (DNS) for the proposal on May 27.
The applicant is Dean Enterprises, Inc., with Barbara Richmond of West Linn, Ore., and Robert VanAlstine of White Salmon also listed as contacts.
The applicant explained the reason for the proposed rezone this way: "We propose to take 40 acres near Trout Lake of poor pine forest and create, eventually, 15-17 two-acre lots for housing. The area trees are affected by root rot and mistletoe."
According to the application, the property under review is currently zoned "forest resource - 20 acres." The applicant notes that the property in question is bordered by two-acre zoning.
Written comments regarding the DNS can be submitted to the Planning Department. The deadline for comments is June 17. The deadline for appeals of the DNS is also June 17; appeals (with $175 fee) must be filed with the Board of County Commissioners and the Klickitat County Auditor by 5 p.m. that day.
Written comments relating to the zone change request will be accepted until a public hearing on the rezoning request. The date for the hearing has not yet been scheduled.
