Soroptimists Plan Shopping Extravaganza

Pre-Holiday event staged for Nov. 19 at Hood River Inn

Soroptimist International of Mt. Adams is hosting a pre-holiday "shopping extravaganza" on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Best Western Hood River Inn.

The event will feature local and Portland area artisans exhibiting holiday gift ideas of jewelry, art, glassware, paintings, and cards. Massage services will also be available.

"This is the first event of its kind for our club and we're really excited by the participation of the artisans," said Ginger Budrius, event coordinator. "These are all small businesses with unique products, many of them from White Salmon, where our club is located. We're so appreciative of their support. At this point, we have 13 artisans participating, and it may still grow!"

"It's not just a sale. With the holiday beverages and music, and chair massages, it's a holiday event! It's going to be very festive," said Kathleen O'Connor-McNew, a Mt. Adams club member. "We hope that people will come from all over to support these small businesses and Soroptimist, and to have a great time doing it. It's going to be my holiday season "kick-off" event," she said.

Ten percent of the sales at the event will benefit Soroptimist International of Mt. Adams to reimburse members for their attendance at Soroptimist meetings. "The vast majority of our fundraising goes directly back into our communities," explained Patty Ward, club president. "However, there are Soroptimist meetings at our district and region level that members occasionally attend, and we always find that member attendance at these meetings produces new ideas and resources for helping our communities. That vital information is something we can easily miss if we don't have people at these meetings. Having funds available to support higher member attendance at these meetings will benefit the communities our club serves."

Soroptimist is an international volunteer service organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world.
