The Skamania County Auditor's Office received a call from an Underwood resident on Monday questioning why a White Salmon School District board candidate was not included in Skamania County's local voter's pamphlet.
"After researching the issue and contacting the Klickitat County Auditor's Office, we determined that the Klickitat County Auditor's Office did not provide us with a copy of this individual's declaration of candidacy as required by the Revised Code of Washington," said Skamania County Auditor J. Michael Garvison.
The error left Dan Rawding, a candidate for White Salmon School District Position No. 3, off the Skamania County ballot. Only his opponent, Kris Kreps, was included.
"That (Kreps) was the only declaration of candidacy that the Klickitat County Auditor's Office provided to the Skamania County Auditor's Office," said Garvison.
Garvison explained that the Skamania County ballots had already been printed and sent to a mailing house for distribution to voters when the error was discovered.
The Skamania County Auditor's Office is, however, now trying to rectify the mistake.
There are approximately 600 Skamania County voters who live in the White Salmon School District. They vote in the precincts of Underwood North and Underwood South.
"We were able to stop those two ballots from being mailed to our voters in those two precincts," Garvison said. "We will be reprinting those ballots tomorrow (Oct. 18), and I will personally deliver them to the Underwood post office to ensure the voters receive a correct ballot."
Anyone in those two precincts who doesn't receive a corrected ballot should call Garvison at (509) 427-3730.
