Columbia High didn't lose a set in singles play in beating Montesano, 4-1, in SW Washington 2A League girls tennis action here Monday afternoon.
Johanna Zimbelman defeated Krista Perkins, 6-3, 6-1; Nohelani Roche prevailed Katie Peterson, 6-2, 6-1; and Erin McCutcheon downed Katie Schuh, 6-1, 6-0.
Columbia's only loss came on the No. 1 doubles court. There, Montesano's Alicia Snyder and Miki Monroe topped CHS's Kelley McNallan and Adrienne Charap in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
Bruins Brooke and Mara Hathaway salvaged a split of the varsity doubles matches, however, getting the better of the Bulldogs' Sara Lawr and Alyssa Hardwick, 6-0, 6-4.
Columbia (3-2 in league matches) also beat Montesano, 4-1, there last Friday. Again, the Bruins' only setback in varsity matches came in No. 1 doubles.
Monte's Snyder and Monroe defeated CHS's Hathaway and Hathaway, 6-3, 6-4, to prevent the Bruins from making a clean sweep.
Last Saturday, the Bruins traveled to Tenino for a league meeting with the Beavers.
It was not a good day for Columbia, which lost four of five varsity matches.
CHS's only victory went to Hathaway and Hathaway, and that took some doing.
They won a tiebreaker, 7-4, to win the first set, then finished it off with a 6-1 decision in the second.
Roche made Columbia's best showing in singles play. She extended her match to three sets before losing, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1.
