Soroptimist International of Mt. Adams is hosting a Candidates' Night on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at the Pioneer Center in White Salmon.
The forum, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 6 p.m. with a presentation by the Klickitat County Auditor's Office regarding the party ballot election process, and candidates will begin speeches and questions at 6:30 p.m.
All candidates running for political office and appearing on the Primary Election ballot have been invited. Each candidate will have the opportunity to address the audience followed by a time for audience members to ask questions of the candidates.
The Primary Election is Tuesday, Sept. 19; the General Election is Tuesday, Nov. 7.
Soroptimist Kathleen Butcher will serve as the event's moderator, and Soroptimist will provide refreshments.
"We thought it was very important to hold this event prior to the primary because, locally, the Prosecuting Attorney and Sheriff's races in Klickitat County will be decided in that race, and some voters will be voting to decide which Democratic candidate will be running in the County Commissioner Position No. 2 position in the General Election. Some statewide elections will be decided in the Primary, as well," said Kathleen Butcher. "It may seem like this event is early, but in order to provide voters information prior to the Primary and before they mail in their ballots we decided to hold it earlier than we have in the past. All members of the community are encouraged to attend."
Soroptimist is an international volunteer service organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world.
