Downtown White Salmon businesses started "The 12 Days of Christmas" on Monday, Dec. 11, with different sales on unique items every day through Dec. 23.
Each shop is offering a different item at a very special price, just for that day. Nobody knows what each day's special is until they walk through the door or call the store.
Pam Morneault of Collage of the Gorge started the program five years ago as a fun way to put items on sale before Christmas. It helped clear down some inventory. Now she plans for it in August when she goes to market.
The idea was recently recognized nationally by Bob and Susan Negen, authors of Marketing Your Retail Store in the Internet Age, and she then asked other retailers to join.
"Everyone is really excited, eagerly scheming up their sales, making lists and being so creative," Morneault said. "It even covers food and gift wrapping this year!"
