Seventh-grade squad gets off to 2-1 start

Henkle Middle School's boys seventh-grade basketball team tasted defeat for the first time this season, losing to View Ridge, 40-36, here last Thursday.

The Grizzlies (2-1) led 19-11 at halftime but couldn't hold the Rebels off in the fourth quarter.

Scoring points for Coach Kevin Liddiard's team were: Mark Lovrin 14, Connor Warner 8, Ryan Combelic 7, Dylan Rabinowitz 5 and Jose Briones 2.

Coach Steve Larsen's eighth-grade squad dropped to 1-2 with a 37-23 loss to View Ridge.

Scoring for Henkle were: Jenson Ladiges 15 points, Zach Mart 6 and Neal LaGrander 2.

On Jan. 24 at Washougal, both Henkle teams were big winners against Canyon Creek.

The eighth-graders led 25-1 at halftime on their way to a 45-7 victory.

Grizzlies scoring went as follows: Ladiges 14, LaGrander 8, Caleb Huth 6, Ty Plummer 5, Evan Carter 4, Mart 4, Andrew Campbell 2, Miguel Reyes 2.

In seventh-grade action, Lovrin tossed in 22 points to lead Henkle to a 39-24 win.

Also scoring for Henkle were: Rabinowitz 7, Warner 5, Felix Torres 4 and Ryan Combelic 1.

Jan. 19 marked the beginning of Henkle's season. Results against visiting Jemtegaard of Washougal were mixed.

The seventh-graders won the preliminary, 42-21, behind Lovrin's 20 points.

More scoring for Henkle came from: Briones 6, Warner 5, Combelic 4, Rabinowitz 3 and Zach Halpern 2.

The eighth-grade game went to Jemtegaard, which built a 22-10 halftime lead on its way to a 35-18 win.

Henkle got eight points from Ladiges, six from LaGrander and four from Mart.
