Prep Gymnastics:

Jessica Strain finished second in the all-around last Friday during Stevenson's league meet at Camas.

Strain, a senior, was second on the uneven bars (7.2) and third on the vault (8.35) and in the floor exercise (8.5) on her way to a final score of 31.5.

Camas, which won the meet, 149.55 to 148.9, was led by all-around winner Alex Whitefield (35.8), who placed first in all four events.

Kaitlyn Richards of Stevenson placed second on the vault (8.45) and in the floor exercise (8.7) and third in the all-around (30.65).

Prep Sports:

Lyle High School junior Joey Nelson earned WIAA/Seattle Times Class B male athlete of the week honors for the week ending Jan. 7, for his efforts in Lyle's back-to-back basketball victories Jan. 6-7.

Said The Times: "Nelson couldn't miss in a pair of wins. He was 7 of 7 from the field and 4 of 4 at the free-throw line for 22 points against La Salle, and scored 24 on 11-of-15 shooting against Trout Lake-Glenwood."

The WIAA/Seattle Times athletes of the week are selected by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association and The Seattle Times from nominations by athletic directors around the state.

Prep Girls Basketball:

Stevenson lost to visiting Ridgefield, 74-32, Jan. 10 to drop to 0-3 in the Trico Division and 2-8 overall.

Rylee Walker and Natalie Saunders shared scoring honors for the Bulldogs. Each scored seven points.

Including a 44-36 non-league loss at Cascade Locks, Ore., Jan. 7, Stevenson has now lost four in a row.
