Photo lab, scrapbooking shop offer you ways to do it right

A great way to preserve your memories

The Enterprise

The image in the mirror is different but the services the business offers remain the same.

"We're doing 100 percent of what Bob did," said Jeff Collett, who, with his wife, Jenny, bought Bingen's Mirror Image Photo Lab from Bob Dobyne last spring. The Colletts officially took over May 1.

Before that, Collett, who lives on Snowden with his wife and four sons (ages 14, 12, 7 and 3), worked for Verizon, the telecommunications company, for eight years in Gresham, Ore.

"I got sick of the commute," Collett said of his decision to make a career change that keeps him closer to home.

As owner-operator of Mirror Image, Collett provides everything from one-hour film processing and printing to enlargements and photo restoration, to passport photos.

The photo lab shares space at 209 W. Steuben with the family's other business, Mirror Image Scrapbooking. Jenny Collett is in charge of that side of the operation.

"We had planned for many years to start a scrapbooking business," said Jeff Collett, adding, "The two (photo lab and scrapbooking shop) went together real well."

Jenny Collett said she's been putting together scrapbooks for about seven years.

"I got started because I found it was just a fun thing to do with friends and a good way to preserve family photos," she explained. "And I found I took more photos and looked at them more often as opposed to just sticking them in photo albums."

She added: "There are scrapbooking outlets in Hood River and The Dalles but I wanted to give people a place where they could shop locally to get the things they need. So, here we are."

Mirror Image Scrapbooking stocks everything the experienced or beginning scrapbooker needs: adhesives, albums, journaling supplies, stamps, cardstock, specialty paper, "soft" and "hard" embellishments, and tools.

"Plus, we will be having new products coming in often to keep 'scrappers' updated on all the latest and greatest ideas in scrapbooking," Jenny Collett said. "And we'll soon have a customer table and workshops to make it even more fun."

Moreover, customers who come into Mirror Image Scrapbooking through the end of July can enter to win a scrapbooking sample package--valued at more than $20--when they drop a suggestion in the suggestion box of what they'd like to see in the store.
