Projects to being on wildlife refuges

New headquarters being built in Glenwood

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will begin construction projects on three national wildlife refuges -- Ridgefield, Steigerwald Lake and Conboy Lake -- in Clark and Klickitat counties, this coming summer and fall.

All three refuges will remain open during construction.

At Conboy Lake National Wildlife Refuge, a new refuge headquarters is coming.

Construction of new office and shop buildings to be located near the intersection of Troh Lane Road and the BZ-Glenwood Road south of Glenwood will begin this summer and be completed in 2007.

The site was selected for easy public access and availability of utilities, and it will replace the current office and shop.

The Whitcomb-Cole hewn log house and Willard Springs Trail at the current refuge headquarters will remain open to visitors.
