Two men suffered minor injuries when they were involved in a two-car accident on State Route 97 at milepost 21.
The accident occurred on May 28, 2005, at 4:15 a.m.
According to the report, Anthony C. Akers, 25, Oak Harbor, was driving his 1997 Chevrolet pickup southbound on SR 97 near Three Creeks Resort. The pickup crossed the centerline into the northbound lane. Akers attempted to return to the southbound lane, too late. A second vehicle, a 1998 Peterbilt tractor with trailer driven by Benjamin L. Chavez, 40, Yakima, was northbound coming out of a curve when it steered to the left to avoid the pickup. The vehicle collided head-on. The axle on the tractor trailer was knocked free from the vehicle and it continued across both southbound lanes, stopping upright in the southbound ditch. The trailer loaded with produce came to rest leaning against the southbound embankment. The pickup came to rest lodged in the northbound cable guardrail.
Akers suffered abrasions and contusions to the hands, arms and legs. He was transported to Klickitat Valley Hospital in Goldendale.
Chavez suffered minor bumps to his forearms.
Akers was arrested for the investigation of DUI and cited for open container.
