Bingen boosts local property tax by allowed one percent

Public hearing held on Nov. 6

During a public hearing on Nov. 6, the Bingen City Council agreed to boost the property tax for local residents by one percent.

The four City Council members present voted unanimously to enact the increase, which will bring in an additional $1,595 to the city next year.

The new assessed valuation takes effect as of Jan. 1, 2007.

"It's a 2007 levy," explained Bingen City Clerk Jan Brending.

Brending said the money will go mostly to the city's "current expense" fund.

"Sixty-nine percent will go to current expenses, and the other 31 percent goes into our street fund," Brending said.

No citizens spoke out against the increase during the council session.
