Gerald Lee "Jerry" Phelps was born March 2, 1971, in Hood River, Ore., to Sandy Locke and Donald Phelps.
He was raised in Odell and attended Mid Valley Elementary and Wy'East Middle School. He graduated in 1989 from Hood River Valley High. After graduation, he worked for various local businesses. For the past 15 years, he worked as a dedicated employee of Diamond Fruit.
In the spring of 1997, Mr. Phelps proposed to his longtime friend Jami Bellus. They were married in Hood River on July 18, 1998. They made their home in Odell, where they enjoyed their time together as a newly married couple.
Mr. Phelps enjoyed spending time with his family. His children loved wrestling with dad, riding motorcycles and playing ball. He took the family along on countless trips to the Dunes. He was full of adventure and taught his children to be the same. He appreciated his wife's willingness to participate in all his outdoor escapades and finally bought her a trailer so she and the family could always be included.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, hunting, fishing, archery, and riding 4-wheelers. He loved hanging out with his buddies, making short stories long, and playing Liar's Poker around the campfire. He would never miss the annual "Halibut on the Hill" or a good poker tournament with friends.
Mr. Phelps was an incredible husband, devoted father and loyal friend to all. His life was full of people who loved, admired and respected him. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
Mr. Phelps died Nov. 9, 2006, in Hood River.
He is survived by his wife, Jami; children Jimmy, Jessykah, Isaac, Eli, and Ayden; mother Sandy Locke, Husum; father Donald Phelps, Odell, Ore.; brothers Tommy, Salem, Ore., and Danny, Minot, N.D.; grandmother Florence Chandler, The Dalles, Ore.; grandparents Betty and Jerry Draper, Hood River, Ore; and many inlaws. He will also be missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous close friends.
A memorial service was held Nov. 18, 2006, at 1 p.m. at Valley Christian Church in Hood River.
Service arrangements are under the direction of Anderson's Tribute Center.
Leona M. Schultz died on Nov. 13, 2006, at Skyline Hospital in White Salmon, following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Schultz was born to Rudolf and Clara (Korte) Kramer on Oct. 22, 1922, near Leigh, Neb. She married Leroy Schultz in Fremont, Neb., on Nov. 30, 1946, and they made their home in Hooper, Neb., where their three children were born. The family moved to White Salmon in 1955.
Surviving are her husband Leroy; son Dennis, Mill A; daughters Deanna Bartel, Green Valley, Ariz., and Sharon Huffsmith, White Salmon; sister Lorinda Schultz, White Salmon; granddaughter Tara and grandsons Jason, Jonathan and Brandon Schultz; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers Walter, Elmer and Arthur.
Mrs. Schultz was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bingen.
No services were held.
