Klickitat lost to Riverside Christian in five sets last Friday, in a matchup of Greater Columbia B League division leaders.
It was the Vandals' first loss since Sept. 8, when they dropped their consolation match at the Yakima SunDome Volleyball Festival.
The Vandals (5-1, 9-2) opened last Friday's match with a 25-21 first-set loss to the Crusaders. But they rallied to win the second and third sets, 25-23 and 25-21.
Riverside, however, evened the match at two sets apiece with a 25-21 verdict in the fourth set.
That set the stage for the fifth-set tiebreaker, which the Crusaders won, 15-4, to avenge a Sept. 19 non-league, straight-sets loss to the Vandals and improve their GCB mark to 5-0.
"We had only six players for this league match. I thought we had our chances in the first game, but we made too many serving and passing errors," Vandals Coach Kirk Huwe said. "We can't give a team of this quality extra chances."
Overall, Klickitat played well enough to win, posting 34 kills in 58 chances (59 percent accuracy) and 10 blocks, and putting 87-of-95 serves (92 percent) in play, including five aces.
Aryn Davis paced the Vandals' attack with 15 kills in 23 attempts and six blocks. Melissa Huwe added nine kills in 11 attempts and Samantha Brewer had four blocks.
Klickitat's top servers were Huwe (25/25, 1 ace), Zoe Linder (21/22, 2 aces), Davis (17/19, 2 aces), Trisheena Keys (12/13) and Kali Linville 9/10).
Defensive standouts for Klickitat included Huwe with five saves, Keys with three and Davis and Linville with two each. In the passing game, Linville got credit for 17 assists.
"I'm very proud of this group and we need to continue to improve the next couple of weeks," Huwe said.
