Two feet of snow before rains

Glenwood News for Dec. 6

By the

Woo Hoo! The winter wonderland returned to Glenwood last week. Two-plus feet of snow transformed our landscape into a post-card-worthy view -- that is before the rains returned to mess it up. Kudos need to be extended to the Klickitat County Road Department. The guys have been working hard to keep the roads to Glenwood in a safe and passable condition. Thank you, gentlemen!

Former Coach Mitch Hecomovich, will be honored at a "Sports Potluck" on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Glenwood School. Mr. Hecomovich coached the Glenwood boys' basketball teams from 1957 through 1964. Bring your favorite dish, and plan to stay for an afternoon of visiting!

Our condolences are extended to the family of Anita Lawson. Mrs. Lawson recently passed away; and leaves behind children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in the Glenwood community.

The TLG basketball teams warmed up for the new season with mini games at the Klickitat Jamboree last week. The TLG boys and girls both played Klickitat and Lyle, and are looking forward to a good season.

Glenwood's contribution to the girls TLG team include: Coach Bo-Deen Arnold, Amy Keithly, Dave'y Lumley, Allison Skahan and Mariah Smith. Steve Allaway is coaching the Glenwood boys who include Devin Dean, Dustin Jones, Brian Langfield and Tye Schuster.

The Trout Lake Shoot-Out Basketball Tournament was held Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. The TLG girls beat the Stevenson High School J.V. team on Friday by 60 points. They came out on top of the Vancouver Christians by nearly 40 points in Saturday's game -- to cinch the tournament trophy. The TLG boys team was victorious over Stevenson High J.V.s; and lost to Vancouver Christians for a second place finish in the tournament. Action will return to the TLG home court on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 6 p.m. when they host Horizon Christian. Best wishes to the TLG basketball teams for a successful season!

Glenwood Junior High basketball action kicked off Monday, Dec. 3 at Glenwood. The boys and girls combined team will travel to Lyle on Thursday, Dec. 6, for a 5 p.m. game. Coaches for the junior high hoopsters are Tom Eldred and Katie Feller. Teammates on the combined roster include: Katrina Garcia-Chubb, Gregory Dechand, Taylor Feller, Dakota Jones, Mary Jorgensen, Jake Keithly, Tiffany McCoy, Leah Peterson, CJ Schuster, Jaylin and Jonathon Throop, and Kurt and Kyle Wilkins. Good luck Glenwood Junior High basketball players!

The scholastic book fair has returned to the Glenwood School Library. The book fair offers a wonderful opportunity to purchase books for Christmas gifts; and is open from 8 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. weekdays through Dec. 12.

Mark your calendars for the annual Christmas Program at the Glenwood School on Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. Kindergarten through high school students, under the direction of Debbie Allaway, will sing, perform a short play, and play their band instruments.
