Kids can learn to survive in the Gorge

Winter camp planned for Dec. 27 and 28

The Discovery Center will offer a Winter Survival Camp for kids on Dec. 27 and 28.

The camp on Dec. 27 will be from 9 a.m. to noon for first to third graders. The registration fee is $20. The camp on Dec. 28 will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for fourth to sixth graders. The registration fee for this camp is $30 and will include snacks and lunch.

Students will explore the winter outdoor conditions of the Columbia Gorge and learn how to survive in this environment. The camp will also explore how different animals and plants survive.

During the last hour of each camp, Discovery Center staff and Chris Tolotti of Wildlife Rescue of The Gorge will offer a Birds of Prey program featuring several live birds.

Wildlife Rescue of The Gorge is providing extensive raptor training for Discovery Center staff to develop this new program.

At the Kids Camp, several young raptors will make their debut as part of the training process.
