Two men were injured on Dec. 27, 2006, when they were involved in a one-vehicle accident on State 14 at milepost 142. The accident occurred at approximately 4:54 a.m.
According to the report, Christopher L. Cannon, 27, Richland, was driving a 2002 Dodge pickup westbound on SR 14 when he attempted to pass a westbound semi. The Dodge avoided a head on collision with an eastbound semi. It then exited the roadway on the eastbound shoulder, descended a ravine and cartwheeled numerous times before coming to rest in the ravine, 150 ft from the first point of improper passing.
Cannon was transported to Klickitat Valley Hospital for numerous lacerations, abrasions and possible internal injuries.
A passenger in the vehicle, Jesse K. Pierson, 28, Gresham, Ore., was also transported to KVH with a fractured right forearm, head contusion and possible internal injuries.
Cannon was cited for DUI and possession of marijuana.
On Dec. 27, 2006, at approximately 10:30 a.m., a 1998 Freightliner truck towing a flatbed trailer with 1/2 of a modular classroom on it was eastbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 82.
The driver, Clifford G. Carpenter Jr., 51, from Aumsville, Ore., reported the vehicles entered a strong wind area and a gust of wind blew the modular classroom off the trailer, over the median and landed across the westbound lanes resting partially on the median.
No vehicles were reportedly struck.
The westbound lanes were blocked about one hour before ODOT moved the structure onto the shoulder.
Oregon State Police troopers from The Dalles Area Command responded to investigate and assist ODOT.
