La Center opened last Thursday's Trico Division game against Columbia High in Miller Memorial Gym with a 22-point run that paved the way for its 63-43 victory.
The game was one the Bruins needed to win to jumpstart their entry into the Trico race. Instead, they lost their fourth in a row and dropped to 0-5 in Trico and 5-8 overall.
Cash Kelly and Erik Gore got the Wildcats (2-4, 3-11) going in the opening quarter.
Kelly scored 10 of his game-high 32 points and Gore put in eight of his 12 in the first eight minutes of action.
Columbia, which committed eight turnovers in the first quarter (31 overall), finally got on the scoreboard with 2:05 remaining in the period when Greg Tellez made the second of two free throws.
Just over a minute later, Kent Shelley completed a 3-point play to cut La Center's lead to 22-4.
The closest Columbia got the rest of the night was 13 points: 24-11 in the second quarter on a Tellez-assisted basket by Thomas Jeter, and 38-25 in the third quarter on a bucket by Tellez.
