Under Senate Bill 5074, State Sen. Jim Honeyford (R.-Sunnyside), proposes to divide Water Resource Inventory Area (WRIA) 29 into WRIA 29a and WRIA 29b.
"Planning in the western part of the existing WRIA 29 has been completed and approved by the county commissioners of both Klickitat and Skamania counties," Honeyford said. "This legislation would allow the eastern section to continue and complete its planning with funding."
The proposal would designate the White Salmon sub-basin and everything east of it as WRIA 29b, with the remaining area as WRIA 29a.
Watershed planning would be conducted separately for the two areas. In addition, full funding for a single WRIA would be available for WRIA 29a, while WRIA 29b would receive one-half funding available for a single WRIA.
Honeyford is the ranking Republican member of the Senate Water, Energy & Telecommunications Committee.
