Filing period set for WS council

Opening created by resignation of Susan Benedict

With an unexpected vacancy in the White Salmon City Council, the Klickitat County Auditor's Office has set a special filing period to fill the seat.

The opening was created when former council member Susan Benedict resigned in June because she was moving out of White Salmon. Her seat (Position No. 3) on the five-member council will be on the Nov. 6 general election ballot, with the winner serving the final two years of her unexpired term.

Any White Salmon resident interested in filing a "declaration of candidacy" to get on the ballot for the open council position can do so between 9 a.m. on Monday, July 23, through 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25.

To qualify for the election ballot, candidates must be at least 18 years old, a resident of the city of White Salmon, and a registered voter.

For more information, contact the Auditor's Office at 1-800-583-8050.
