Join choir for 17th concert season

Choir performs for benefit programs

Mid Columbia Community Choir is holding open registration until Aug. 10, for anyone wishing to join this year's community choir.

In order to be a member, you must be able to sing and learn your part and attend rehearsals weekly. Rehearsals will begin on Sept. 6 at 6:30 p.m. and will continue on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. in the White Salmon Seventh-day Adventist Church located at 509 NE Tohomish St in White Salmon.

The choir performs four benefit concerts each fall, with last year's performances raising $2845 for charities on both sides of the river.

The Hymns of Thanksgiving program will benefit Habitat for Humanity with the Christmas concerts benefiting FISH, Mt. Adams Ministerial Association and the White Salmon Evangelical Pastors' Association.

The choir will present the third annual community hymn sing on Nov. 17 at Riverside Community Church entitled "Hymns of Thanksgiving."

This is a very fun and enjoyable service with the choir leading the audience in some of the great hymns and choruses. This year, the Hood River Sweet Adeline's will make a guest appearance and the Thanksgiving Singers will return as well. Other special guests will appear during the evening, with the choir presenting several choral numbers.

On Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, the choir will present its 17th annual Christmas Cantata at Riverside Community Church and then again on December 2 at Grace Baptist Church in White Salmon.

Bob Van Alstine, the founder of Mid Columbia Community Choir, will guest direct the choir in a special piece he has chosen entitled, "O Day Full of Grace." Perry Cole, director sing 2003 will then conduct the choir and orchestra in this year's performance entitled, "Canticle of Christmas." The choir will end the concert with a choral benediction of "The Lord's Prayer."

Mid Columbia Community Choir is in the process of looking for a pianist/accompanist. The group is looking for someone with at least an intermediate skill level and with experience accompanying choirs for both rehearsals and concerts.
