A Goldendale man was killed in a two-vehicle accident on State Route 97 at milepost 43, 10 miles south of Toppenish. The accident occurred on July 18, 2007, at approximately 3:07 p.m.
According to the report, Sean E. Kearney, 20, Carnation, was driving a 2007 Audi southbound on SR 97. He attempted to pass a vehicle in a no passing zone. Peter D. Garland, 38, Goldendale, was driving a 1993 Nissan northbound and swerved to the right shoulder to avoid Kearney's vehicle. Kearney also swerved to the shoulder, striking Garland's vehicle head on.
Garland was transported to Toppenish Hospital, where he died.
Kearney was transported to Yakima Memorial. Two passengers in Kearney's vehicle -- Nick Hinton, 20, Carnation, and Zachary H. Mehrens, 17, Carnation -- were both transported to Yakima Memorial.
The accident is still under investigation.
Daniel J. Neuroth, 43, Deer Park, suffered injuries when he was involved in a one vehicle accident on SR 14 at milepost 26, approximately eight miles east of Washougal. The accident occurred on July 23, 2007, at 9:02 a.m.
According to the report, Neuroth was driving a 2005 Freightliner truck with trailer west on SR 14. The vehicle left the roadway to the north and overturned in the ditch.
The roadway was partially blocked but traffic was able to get by.
Neuroth suffered a laceration to his head and a sore shoulder. He was transported to Southwest Wasington Medical Center.
He was charged with negligent driving.
A 72-year-old Richland woman was injured in a one-vehicle accident on SR 14 at milepost 133. The accident occurred on July 22, 2007, at approximately 1:58 p.m.
According to the report, Alma Lewandowski was driving her 1992 Nissan westbound on SR 14. She became distracted, reaching for something in her vehicle. The vehicle crossed the center line and the eastbound lane before traveling off the roadway. The vehicle then rolled one and a half times, coming to rest on the shoulder.
Lewandowski was transported to Mid Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles with head lacerations and possible abdomen injury.
She was charged with negligent driving.
