Beginning in August, the city of White Salmon will join most of the rest of the world and send out its bills for water, sewer, and garbage service on a monthly basis. Currently, the bills -- which cover water, sewer, and garbage all in one -- are sent out every two months.
The White Salmon City Council voted 4-1 to approve the change at last week's council meeting.
"Talking to city staff, it seems like this will be better for the customers," explained council member John Mayo. "Everybody else is already paying their bills monthly, and this makes the amount more consistent, instead of nothing one month and a big amount the next. And It will help the city with cash flow."
According to Judi Culp, deputy clerk treasurer for the city of White Salmon, the bill utility customers get at the end of June will be due by Aug. 20. The following bill will come at the end of August, and after that, the bill will be due every month on the 20th.
"The bill will be half of what they get now," Culp said.
