Ideas from parents being sought

Community network working for parents

Input, ideas and opinions from parents living in Klickitat and Skamania County are being sought by the Skamania Klickitat Community Network (SKCN).

A confidential questionnaire is now available through a link on the Network's parenting website

In addition, parents may likely receive the survey through the mail, see it arrive with their school age children, or find it at their local WIC office, childcare center or Head Start location.

The study contains questions designed to gather information on what local parents really want to know more about when it comes to raising children.

It also seeks to learn the best ways to provide information throughout rural and isolated areas of Klickitat and Skamania County.

Johanna Roe, Parent Program Coordinator with the Network said, "The world is moving and changing faster and faster for families. Trying to balance family and work can be really hectic and stressful. Many parents share similar concerns and worries about their children, but often have no one around they can ask for advice, especially in small outlying areas. This survey will be really useful to help put programs in place that address what local parents have identified as important."

Skamania Klickitat Community Network is a community group affiliated with the statewide Family Policy Council and Community Mobilization Against Substance Abuse program.

The SKCN has recognized substance abuse, domestic violence and child abuse and neglect as three of the more serious challenges facing area families.

For more information, or to learn about upcoming classes, workshops or support groups, parents can call the Network's toll free number at (866) 631-1997 or log on to the website.
