Henkle Middle School's eighth-grade boys and seventh-grade girls teams improved to 2-0 last Wednesday with victories at a Lower Columbia Athletic Association meet in Washougal.
Highlights for the eighth-grade boys team included a school record in the 4x200-meter relay. Jackson Fuller, Mark Lovrin, Zach Halpern and Jesse Alvarez posted a time of 1 minute, 47.2 seconds, beating the old record set in 2003 by 2.8 seconds.
Individual event winners for the eighth-grade boys were Evan Nystrom (100, 200 and long jump), Bruno Maya (1600 and 800), Halpern (100 hurdles), Alvarez (javelin) and Stephen Sams (shot put).
All told, the team won 10 of 13 events and scored a 83 points.
Henkle's seventh-grade girls team, for its part, tallied a meet-best 89 points, winning six of 13 events.
First-place finishers were Sarah Gibson (1600), Manon Lerebourg (100), Courtney Montero (400), Paige Stevenson (javelin) and the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.
The eighth-grade girls and seventh-grade boys teams both scored 43 points and placed second in their respective four-school meets.
Moreover, each won one event: Kirsten Larsen, first in the 100 for the girls and Omar Ceballos, first in the 400 for the boys.
All told, Henkle athletes set 126 personal records during th meet.
