On Nov. 12, 2007, at approximately 4 a.m., troopers with the Washington State Patrol responded to a collision involving a pedestrian and commercial vehicle on State Route 14 near the Hood River Bridge. The crash occurred on SR 14, approximately a half mile west of the Hood River Bridge (milepost 64).
The investigation revealed a pedestrian identified as Richard Colton, an 81 year old resident of Underwood, was walking his dog in the westbound lane of SR 14. Colton was walking eastbound. Colton was struck by a 1985 Kenworth log truck (empty) driven by Richard H. Hutson, 38, Hood River. The log truck was traveling westbound on SR 14.
Colton sustained massive injuries and was transported by ambulance to Skyline Hospital in White Salmon. Colton was then airlifted to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, Ore.
According to personnel at Legacy Emanuel, Colton died shortly after arriving.
Hutson was not injured.
The roadway was blocked for approximately over two hours.
Two Dallesport area teens were involved in a two-vehicle accident on SR 14 near Murdock. The accident occurred on Nov. 7, 2007, at approximately 3:10 p.m.
According to the report, Michelle M. Soloman, 17, Murdock, was eastbound on SR 14. She slowed her 1994 Ford Escort to make a left turn onto Maple Street in Murdock. A 1998 Ford Escort driven by Cassandra L. Mireles, 17, Dallesport, was also eastbound on SR 14. Mireles' vehicle struck Soloman's vehicle from behind.
Soloman was transported to Mid Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles with head pain. Mireles was not injured.
Both vehicles were totalled in the accident.
