On Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at 7:09 a.m. the Skamania County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a one-vehicle collision at mile post 5.5 on the Wind River Road on the outskirts of Carson.
Upon arrival, 19 year old Kirsty Leslie and Gregory Pruitt from Carson, were pronounced deceased. Talea Leslie, 14, from Wishram was transported by Skamania County EMS to Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Ore.
The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Skamania County Sheriff's Office.
A White Salmon juvenile was injured in a one-vehicle accident on Sunday morning at approximately 3:08 a.m. The accident occurred on State Route 141 at milepost 8.
According to the report, a 2003 Honda Accord was southbound on SR 141 when the driver, who was intoxicated and distracted by a cell phone lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle crossed the centerline and northbound lane. The driver then overcorrected and caused the vehicle to enter a broadside skid. The vehicle then crossed all lanes to the west and impacted the embankment and rolled over on to its top, facing northbound.
The driver, whose name was withheld, was charged with driving under the influence and violation of intermediate license restrictions.
The driver suffered a neck injury and minor lacerations and was transported to Skyline Hospital in White Salmon.
A White Salmon woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident on Oct. 16, 2007, at 8:36 a.m. The accident occurred on SR 141 at milepost 13.5.
According to the report, a 1996 Geo Metro driven by Dorothy L. Demaray, 56, White Salmon, stopped in the roadway for a dog crossing the highway. A 2006 Kenworth loaded log truck driven by Wynn M. Engle, 57, of Ethel, was traveling southbound on SR 141 at a speed too fast for conditions and was unable to stop in time and struck the Metro in the right rear. The log truck came to rest on its right side in the southbound ditch.
The roadway was blocked for 20 minutes.
Demaray was transported by ambulance to Skyline Hospital in White Salmon with neck and back injuries.
Engle was cited for speeding.
