JAMES E. LAPPING
James (Jim) Edwin Lapping died Sept. 7, 2007, in Portland, Ore., of a sudden stroke. He was 78 years old.
Mr. Lapping was born to Walter and Francis Lapping in International Falls, Minn., on May 5, 1929. He married Bette Nordstrom in 1957 and together they raised two children. They bought a farm in Lyle in 1967 and he worked as an electrician at The Dalles Dam and Celilo Converter Station in the Mid-Columbia area.
Mr. Lapping later married Sherry Hardy in 1999 and they lived in Scappoose, Ore. His goal was to move to their Alaska property and start a road-dust control business.
Mr. Lapping loved hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He had a great sense of humor, always laughing, and loved his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry, of Scappoose; daughter Terry Kuhnhausen of Glenwood; brothers Archie Lapping and Lester Lapping of St. Helens, Ore.; sisters Darleen Bennett of California and Donna Heikkla of Port Orchard; six grandchildren, Randy Pimley of BZ Corners, Kirt McPherson and Travis McPherson of Glenwood, Melody West of The Dalles, Ore., and Tenaya Lapping and Conan Lapping of Grants Pass, Ore.; and six great grandchildren.
Mr. Lapping was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Francis, his son Chris, a sister, Delores, and a brother, Sonny.
A memorial for Mr. Lapping is planned for Oct. 20 at 2:30 p.m., at 54182 Paradise Ln., Scappoose, Ore.
