Rich Cortese, White Salmon's director of public safety, is setting up a committee to plan parking strategies for the downtown area.
According to Cortese, with the former Elkhorn Tavern being renovated into Sagetech -- an engineering firm supplying products for Insitu -- an additional 35 employees will soon be working in White Salmon's business district.
"The downtown was never real conducive for parking," Cortese said. "There is the potential for adding 30-35 automobiles there, and that will make things even more congested."
Cortese said he wanted to get three or four people living in the area to serve on the committee. Ideally, he'd like to have two business owners and two local residents.
"We'll look at short-term and long-term issues; look at everything," Cortese said. "Parking in the downtown area has always been a nightmare."
Those interested in serving on the committee can call Cortese at 493-6041, or White Salmon City Hall at 493-1133.
