The high school basketball season ended for Lyle/Wishram's boys and girls basketball teams last Saturday in Yakima with Yakima Valley District Class 2B playoff losses.
In boys action, Lyle/Wishram fell to La Salle, 65-40, after trailing 13-10 after one quarter, 27-21 at halftime and 41-32 through three quarters of play.
The host Lightning, who had four players score in double figures, pulled away in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Cougars, 24-8.
Lyle/Wishram's Mike Murphy scored 16 points to share game honors with Taylor Cliett of La Salle.
Joe Campbell added 10 points and Jeff Eiesland chipped in eight for the Cougars, who finished 10-9 under first-year head coach Scott Myers.
La Salle (16-5) next plays Riverside Christian (20-0) of Yakima for the district's lone state 2B tournament berth. The Lightning must beat the top-ranked Crusaders twice this weekend to claim the spot.
In girls play, Riverside Christian (13-6) eliminated Lyle/Wishram from state tournament contention with a 58-8 victory and earned the chance to play No. 1-rated La Salle (19-0) this weekend for the district's one state berth.
Against L/W, Madison Hahn, Sarah Haak and Molly Calhoun combined for 42 of Riverside's point total.
For the Cougars (5-15), Tosha Cloud, Teaera Churchwell, Sylvia Jameyson and Trish Erlenbush each scored two points. -- by Sverre Bakke
