Columbia High closed out the 2007 portion of its girls basketball schedule last Friday with a 55-14 drubbing of Lyle on the final day of the Winter Holiday Classic at Lyle High School.
Ericka Ziegler had 18 points and seven steals, and Lacey Kruse provided 13 points and seven rebounds for the Bruins, who improved to 6-3 with the win.
Lyle, which dropped to 3-3, got six points from Tosha Cloud and four from Lexi Becker.
Columbia took charge of the non-league encounter in the first quarter, outscoring the host Cougars, 18-4. Ziegler scored seven in the opening period and Adrianne DeLay added six on a pair of 3-pointers.
In the second quarter, Kruse shot in six points, Ziegler put in four and Laurel Huth chipped in three as the Bruins extended their lead to 31-12 by halftime.
Columbia turned the contest into a rout in the second half, holding Lyle to two points in the final 16 minutes of play while striking for 24 of its own.
Friday's early game saw Goldendale (7-1) clobber Stevenson (1-7), 66-13.
Goldendale 49, Columbia High 41:
The Timberwolves held the Bruins to two points in the third quarter, erasing a four-point halftime deficit in the process.
Goldendale, which led 13-11 after one quarter but trailed 25-21 at halftime, regained control of the game with a 10-0 run over the last four minutes of the third period that put it ahead, 35-27.
The closest the Bruins got in the final stanza was 40-35 on a putback by Rachel Connolly with just over 3 minutes remaining.
In Columbia's best quarter--the second--Ericka Ziegler scored four points and Michelle McMillen had two as part of a six-point run that propelled the Bruins into a 25-20 lead.
Ziegler paced Columbia with a game-high 17 points and Lacey Kruse added 14.
For Goldendale, Monica DeRushŠ scored 12 points and Kayla Graff and Kylee Bellamy each had 11 points.
Stevenson 34, Lyle 29:
The Bulldogs earned their first victory of the season, outscoring the Cougars 14-6 in the fourth quarter of their second December meeting.
Stevenson's Chelsea Zibolsky led all scorers with 18 points, while Tosha Cloud and Karlee Roth each made 10 points for Lyle.
The Cougars, who came from behind to beat the Bulldogs on Dec. 6, held leads of 11-6, 17-14 and 23-20 at the first three breaks in of play.
