The Trout Lake eight grade class is running into spring with a fundraiser run on Saturday, April 12. The Trout Lake Run -- 5K, 10K, and half marathon loops, starts at the school and is hosted by Trout Lake's eighth grade class. All proceeds from the run support the class. Register before April 5 to get a T-shirt. For more information go to or stop by the school's office. The Trout Lake Run is sponsored by and Come out and run or walk and enjoy the beautiful spring weather.

Your Trout Lake volunteer fire fighters and EMTs have recently had some positive changes -- two new commissioners and a new acting chief. These are the folks you hope you never have to call. The ones that are busy getting the trucks and equipment to keep our community ready for any emergency. The ones that meet twice a month (first and third Wednesdays) at 6 p.m. at the fire hall. The ones that could use you, if you're willing to give a couple of hours a month to your community. Call Eric Schmid, acting fire chief, 395-2466, or just come to a meeting -- give a little, get a lot of satisfaction.

Speaking of the Trout Lake Fire District #1, check the property tax bill that the county just sent you. Does it list a tax for Fire District #1? If not, you are NOT officially in the fire protection district. You can pay "in lieu" taxes to the district by submitting an application and paying the tax to the district. Contact Eula Smith 395-2043 or Maxine Bulick 395-2101 to get further details.

This month started the Centennial Celebration for the Trout Lake Grange #210. Look for many events throughout the next several months to celebrate our first 100 years of community activities and support. The grange was fortunate enough to receive a grant of $25,750 from the Klickitat Economic Development Authority. The grant will be used for repairs and improvements to the 100 year old grange building, a central meeting place for our community.

Correction to last week's column: Harmony Allaway's Scrapbooking Getaway weekend is May 2-4. Call her at 395-2222 for additional information.
