Dallesport Elementary drama students are ready to perform their latest spring musical production, "Once On This Island, Jr." on March 28 and 29 at 7 p.m. in the school.
Admission is free, but there will be a donation tube at the door.
Told in a traditional storytelling style, is is the poignant story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a young man from a wealthy family. When Daniel is returned to his people, the gods who rule the island, guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death.
With its touching story and catchy pop and Caribbean flavored score, it is a multicultural feast for the heart, mind and soul.
Performers are called upon to play many different roles including trees, water and even a fierce rainstorm.
The story is the Caribbean version of The Little Mermaid, by Hans Christian Andersen.
The cast consists of 35 second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth graders. They have been rehearsing for 12 weeks. The cast includes: Madison Wood, Vanessa Ordaz, Morgan Casey, Nicolle Oldfield, Mandy Solomon, Kirstin Hylton, Kaelin and Abby Eskeli, Bobby Feeny, Chance Carpenter, Max and Jacob Zeigler, Riley Haner, Josiah and Paul Clark, Leanne Houston, Olivia Grim, Ellie Smith, Lacy Carse, Andrea Martinez, Alexis Allen, Emily Darland, Bailey Benash, Tiffany Brock, Daniel Bliss, Shaylynn Chase, Bailee Newman, Dana Chase, Courtney Anderson, Rose Foss, Ashley Murphy, Morgan Struck, Kasey Miller, LeslieAnn Rodriguez and Joshua Showalter.
Once On this Island Jr. is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International. All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.
