Columbia High recorded its second non-league volleyball victory on Sept. 23 with a sweep of host Washougal.
The Bruins (2-1) tuned up for their first SWW 1A Trico Division tests--Castle Rock on Tuesday, Stevenson on Thursday--by winning three competitive sets, 25-21, 26-24, 27-25.
Columbia prevented Washougal from extending the match to four sets by rallying from a 22-17 deficit in the third.
"It was an exciting match and the girls were having fun," Bruins Coach Heidi Shultz noted. "Our transition defense is getting better and the girls are really hustling."
The Bruins got strong performances from Lacey Kruse (5 aces, 4 kills, 3 blocks), Carah Concienne (7 kills, 3 blocks, 2 digs), Maree Jo Kettenring (2 assists, 1 ace, 13/13 serves), Adrianne DeLay (4 assists, 3 digs, 1 ace), Andrea Helton (6 aces, 2 kills, 2 digs), Kellyn McCutcheon (4 aces, 3 digs), Rachel Connolly (1 ace, 1 kill) and Gaby Duniphin (2 kills, 1 block).
Bickleton 3, Lyle/Wishram 1:
Lexi Becker tallied 10 aces, nine kills and four blocks in the Cougars' non-league loss to the Pirates last Thursday.
Bickleton (4-1) put Lyle/Wishram on the defensive by winning the first two sets, 25-9, 25-16. The Cougars (0-6) tried to make things interesting by taking the third set, 25-23.
But the Pirates hung on in the fourth to win another close, hard-fought set, 25-22.
Brittany Price contributed three kills to the Lyle/Wishram effort, Brianna Brock had one kills and served 100 percent, and Olivia Fox hit on 100 percent of her serves.

The Vandals (2-0) swept the Cougars, 25-14, 25-14, 25-5, in non-league volleyball action Sept. 23.
Standouts for Lyle/Wishram were Brittany Price with two kills, four blocks and one serving ace; Lexi Becker, three kills, two aces; and Tasha Gidley, 100 percent serving.
