Columbia Art Gallery in Hood River announces its September 2008 show, "Pacific Northwest Plein Air 2008, Painting and Writing Outdoors" featuring 30 regional artists and regional writers.
This year's "Pacific Northwest Plein Air 2008" exhibit focuses on paintings and writing about our natural surroundings. The painting part of the show is a competition for awards and prizes.
The public is invited to the artists' reception on Friday, Sept. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. The show continues through Sept. 28.

Fox, Terrence Gasca, Scott Gellatly, Joe Howard, Eric Jacobsen, Carol Jacquet, Mike Kowalski, Don Lonsborough, David McNeill, Michael Orwick, Dennis W. Porter, Mike Rangner, Cathleen Rehfeld, Charlene Rivers, Todd Smith, Susan Sutherland, Dave Taylor, Donna Van Tuyl, Beth Verheyden, Eric Voigt, Karen Watson, Bonnie White.
The Pacific Northwest Plein Air Show has evolved into a multifaceted event. This is a juried show, 30 artists were selected from many entries. The artists for this event are dedicated to the historic tradition of painting directly from life.
Through this approach of firsthand observation, we strive to more fully explore and respond to the timeless beauty that surrounds us all.
The writers will also observe nature firsthand and create prose and poetry that capture their experience.
Plein Air artists promote a heightened visual appreciation of our area by sharing with the public our combined knowledge and experience through exhibitions of the highest caliber.
Shelley Toon Hight, a very talented instructor of children and well known in this area, will be teaching a children's painting class at Rasmussen Farm.
