Report for Skamania County Sheriff's Office



At approximately 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, the Skamania County Sheriff's Office received a report of a downed aircraft five miles east of Stevenson.

Skamania County deputies, along with Skamania County Emergency Medical and Fire District #1 personnel, responded to the scene.

After beginning his flight from the Aurora State Airport in Marion County, Ore., the pilot, 66-year-old Lawrence Tobin from Spokane, began experiencing engine trouble near Home Valley.

Tobin attempted an emergency landing in a field, crashing into a tree. Tobin did not sustain injuries, but the aircraft was totaled.

Fire District #1 personnel contained fuel leakage from the aircraft.

Further investigation has been turned over to the FAA.
